Sarah Stovell was born in October 1977.  She grew up in Kent and Oxfordshire, and went to Sussex University, where she studied English Literature.

 

She had her first short story published by WH Smith when she was ten, and wrote her first novel at the age of twelve.  Later, in 1999, she was a finalist in the Vogue Talent Contest for Young Writers.

 

Sarah decided to commit to fiction writing after a course with the Arvon Foundation in 2003, which she followed with an MA in Creative Writing at Lancaster University.   Mothernight  became part of her MA project, although it was not finished for another year. 


Sarah now lives and writes in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.  She works as an antiquarian bookseller and part-time teacher of Creative Writing.
